Jonesboro advances to title game

The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals will play for the Regon 5-AAAA fast-pitch softball championship today at 6 p.m. at Lovejoy Regional Park.

Jonesboro beat Southwest DeKalb 3-0 Tuesday with pitcher Heather Lowry turning in an 18-strikeout, no-hit performance.

It was her second no-hitter of the tournament. She threw her first no-hitter against South Atlanta Monday in a 1-0 victory.

Kala Smith and Nicole Smith paced the Lady Cardinals offensively. Smith got two RBIs and Soto got one RBI.

Jonesboro has already qualified for the state sectionals. It will be the third year in a row Jonesboro will be going to state.

"The girls are excited," Jonesboro head coach Jeanine Conkle said.

Jonesboro will either play South Atlanta or Mays today in the region championship game. South Atlanta and Mays played in the late game Tuesday night.

Williams to be co-captain at Tech this year

Former Riverdale High School basketball standout Jessica Williams has been named one of the co-captains for the 2004-2005 Georgia Tech women's basketball team. Williams, who is entering her junior year, has played in 57 games and averaged 4.1 points and pulled down 3.8 rebounds through her first two seasons.

As a freshman, Williams hit the game-winning shot to help the Yellow Jackets upset rival Georgia.

Williams joins Megan Hapring and Kasha Terry has co-captains on this year's squad.

Scott featured on TV program

Lovejoy senior offensive tackle Chris Scott will be featured on Prep Sports Plus this week. The show airs Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the Georgia Public Broadcasting Network (Atlanta, Channel 8).

Lady Cardinals ranked 10th in volleyball

The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals volleyball teams continues to be ranked in Class AAAA.

The Lady Cardinals are ranked 10th and enjoyed a perfect regular season, going 27-0. Jonesboro is the only Clayton or Henry volleyball team to be ranked.

CCSU ties for seventh in fall season finale

The Clayton College and State University men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh in the 12th annual Presbyterian College Intercollegiate at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, S.C.

The Lakers tied Valdosta State for seventh in a field of 15 teams.

Sophomore Matt Beall led CCSU, tying for 11th. He shot a 1-under par 71 in thesecond round after starting the tournament with a 77.

Junior Steven Sanders shot a 2-over par 74 in the second round to finish in a tie for 31st. He shot an 80 in the first round.
