High School football games are usually played on Friday and Saturday nights. This week, Mundy's Mill and Fayette County will break with that tradition with a Region 4-AAAAA contest on Thursday night in a battle of Tigers. Kickoff for the Thursday night's tilt is set for 7:30 p.m. at Tara Stadium. The nickname Tigers isn't the only thing the two schools have in common. Both programs are also struggling to win as each squad brings just one victory into the region contest. Mundy's Mill, which is in just its third season and its first playing a full region schedule, has looked competitive at times. In its season-opener against Jonesboro, the Tigers played the Cardinals to a 13-13 tie. Two games later, they beat Morrow 27-0. That was the biggest point-production of the season for the Tigers. Although Mundy's Mill lost to Riverdale, the game between the two region rivals was close, with the Raiders holding off the Tigers 27-26. However, the close defeat against Riverdale, started Mundy's Mill on a three game slide, including losses to Newnan (20-6) and Starr's Mill (38-0) Tommy Webb, the former head coach at Riverdale and Jonesboro, brings his Fayette club into Clayton County for the second time in three weeks. Two weeks ago, Fayette County lost to Lovejoy in a game that saw Webb's club recover two on-side kicks late in the fourth quarter in an effort to mount a comeback.More like this story
