The Board of Commissioners approved the following at Tuesday's business meeting:
n A resolution authorizing Clayton County to adopt the Pre-disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan, stemming from the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. The plan was a collective effort between county and municipal governments and makes the governments eligible for future federal funds.
n An ordinance to amend the Code of Ordinances of Clayton County, which allows for an increase in an inspection fees for the Division of Environmental Health at the county Board of Health. The fee increases are being imposed to acquire an extra inspector, said Walter Howard, the director of environmental health. With five inspectors for a population of about 250,000, the environmental health division has the lowest ratio of inspectors in the metro Atlanta area, he said.
n A resolution authorizing the approval of the formation of a contract between the Re-Development Authority and Childress Klein under which the sale will take place of property currently under an option with the city of Atlanta. The resolution moves one step closer to shoring up the property in the area where the Mountain View Redevelopment project will occur. Bringing in a private developer to purchase the property was one of the necessary steps of progression for the project, Emory Brock has said.
The property must be purchased soon, said Lou Hisel, a board member for the Re-development Authority. The county is already in an extension period with Atlanta.
"We are under severe time restraints with the city of Atlanta for the above property," he said at Tuesday's meeting.
n A resolution imposing a 180-day moratorium on the subdivision of lots less than 1.8 acres in the Lake Spivey Community. The lots had become so valuable in recent years that buyers were purchasing houses, tearing them down, and subdividing the lots so they could sell several pieces of land or homes, said Don Comer, the county attorney.
n Approved $456,226 in funds for design services for electrical upgrades at the Clayton County public health facility
n Approved $62,350.94 in funds for a new telephone system in the county fire department headquarters.
n Approved $184,824 in Special Local Option Sales Tax funds for the purchase of lighting equipment at Independence Park.
