Eagle's Landing Christian to play for Region 5-A title

The Eagle's Landing Christian Academy Chargers are one win away from capturing the Region 5-A championship in just their first year of competing in the Georgia High School Association.

The Chargers (8-1, 3-0) beat Mt. Zion-Carroll 43-14 Friday night to set up a region title showdown next week at Landmark Christian.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of these kids for being so coachable and responding all year long to the challenges that have been placed before them," ELCA head coach Tim Luke said. "It's a tremendous testament to their character and their skill. I am humbled to be their coach because it's an honor to coach a group of kids that are this fantastic."

Eagle's Landing Christian led 43-0 at the half and Luke put in his ?B' team for the rest of the game.

"We absolutely dominated," Luke said. "From start to halftime, we did what we wanted to do. It's really exciting."

Cole Springer completed 4 of 5 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Alec Huber caught three passes for 80 yards, including two touchdowns of 6 and 35 yards.

Huber also helped lead the defense with 10 tackles.

Tim Waters led the Chargers in rushing with four carries for 89 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown. Kerk Murray had four carries for 77 yards with a 4-yard touchdown. Russ Cooper had five carries for 68 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown.

Brent Patrick added a 3-yard touchdown run.

Freshman Brian Moss had 10 tackles and a sack while Tyler Black had four tackles and two sacks. Jeremy Butler had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Mundy's Mill 16, Union Grove 6: The Mundy's Mill Tigers did all of their scoring in the first half and gave up its only score of the game with about 20 seconds remaining in the game to beat Union Grove 16-6 in a Region 4-AAAAA football game.

The win improved Mundy's Mill to 2-6-1 overall and 2-3 in region play. Union Grove dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the region. It was the final game of the season for Union Grove.

The Tigers broke out on when Darryl Naylor caught Dwayne Sullivan's 35-yard TD pass.

Sullivan then added a TD on a 1-yard keeper. Carmello Marcelin's 23-yard field goal.
