A Swint Elementary School teacher assaulted an "unruly" student by pinching him, according to a Clayton County police report. The police report said that Sharon Shaw, 43, of Hampton pinched her 9-year-old student after telling him to get up from his desk and get a pencil and paper Tuesday afternoon. The matter is under investigation, said Charles White, spokesman for the Clayton County school system. "All personnel are protected by privacy," White said, but did say that an investigation was launched Wednesday afternoon and that it should take a few days. "More than likely this will reach up to the superintendent's desk." He was unsure whether Shaw continued to teach Wednesday, but said the student, whose name wasn't released because of his age, was transferred to another class. The Clayton County school system has a policy prohibiting corporal punishment, but the policy does not define appropriate physical contact for teachers, White said. "I guess I pinched him harder than I thought," the victim's mother told police Shaw said. "He was unruly and would not sit down and do his work." A pre-warrant issuance hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 8.More like this story
