Chargers stay on offensive

By Anthony Rhoads

The Eagle's Landing Christian Academy-Dutchtown football game Friday night was more like a wild west show with both teams coming out with all guns firing.

In the end, ELCA (3-1)prevailed in a 56-42 shootout in Dutchtown's (1-3) first home game in school history.

"That was freakish," ELCA head coach Tim Luke said. "I feel absolute relief and sheer pride at the fortitude of our kids tonight."

Eagle's Landing Christian quarterback Cole Springer and tight end Alec Huber had career nights in the victory.

Springer completed 14 of 17 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Springer was a perfect 8-for-8 for 201 yards in the first half.

Huber caught nine passes for 160 yards and a touchdown. Huber also had kickoff returns of 73 and 21 yards and on top of that, he recorded 10 tackles at linebacker.

"You're talking about two prospective college athletes performing at an unbelievable level in the most electric atmosphere we've had against a county rival," Luke said. "What they did tonight you usually don't see in high school football, you see it on television. They are special athletes."

Tim Waters also came up big for ELCA with three catches for 130 yards. He intercepted a pass and on special teams, he had four kickoff returns for 137 with the longest being 52 yards.

Even though both teams operated on all cylinders on offense, mistakes abounded. Eagle's Landing Christian fumbled five times, losing three, and racked up nearly 100 yards in penalties. Dutchtown recorded three turnovers.

Kerk Murray led ELCA in rushing with 67 yards while Russ Cooper added 53 yards.

Damion Peterson paced Dutchtown with 88 yards on 16 carries.

Andrew Ussery completed 7 of 20 passes for 109 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

J'Mal Carlisle led Dutchtown in receiving with five catches for 91 yards.
