The Clayton County Fire and Police Departments will commemorate the memory of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks by playing each other in a basketball game at Morrow High School's gym Saturday, Sept. 11 at noon. The game is entitled the "Heroes' Basketball Game" and it will be a celebration of both departments. The festivities begin with county dignitaries, like Sheriff-elect Victor Hill, speaking from noon-1 p.m. The game will be played from 1-2:30 p.m. and afterwards there will be a chance for the community and the departments to interact. The game is free and fans attending are asked to bring donations n $2 for kids up to 18 and $5 for adults 19 and up. All funds collected will be given to both departments to donate to their charities of choice. The game was the brainstorm of Morrow boys basketball head coach Jay Livingston, who felt the entire community, especially the youth, needed to come together and embrace the real heroes in life. "It was something that I thought about this past July," Livingston said. "These people risk their lives for us every day and I thought a basketball game would be a good way for us to show them that we as a community care about them."More like this story
