Riverdale wins in OT

The Riverdale Raiders outlasted Mundy's Mill 27-26 in overtime Saturday night at Tara Stadium.

The game was 13-all at the end of regulation and the teams scored two touchdowns each in the overtime period.

Mundy's Mill (1-2-1) struck first as Erroll Wynn scored on a 15-yard run on the team's first play in overtime.

Riverdale (2-2) came back to tie thanks to a 13-yard touchdown pass from Tim Johnson to Normiez Reeves.

Riverdale got the ball back and three plays later, Doug Jennings scored on a 5-yard run.

On Mundy's Mill's final overtime possession, Erroll Wynn scored on a 2-yard run but Jason Peterson's extra point was no good, giving Riverdale the victory.

Wynn led all rushers with 102 yards on 29 carries. Kelvin Colbert led Riverdale with 90 yards on nine carries. Jennings added 66 yards on 18 carries.

Mundy's Mill scored on its first drive of the game.

Mundy's Mill marched 85 yards and the 11-play drive of nearly six minutes culminated in a 1-yard touchdown run by Dwayne Sullivan.

Riverdale came back on its next possession and orchestrated a five-and-a-half minute, 12-play scoring drive.

The 72-yard drive ended on a 1-yard touchdown run by Rod Mason.

Mundy's Mill took the lead with 3:59 remaining in the third quarter.

Riverdale had a first-and-10 at their own 42 but Reeves fumbled on the play. Montel Minter (a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end) recovered the loose ball and lumbered his way into the end zone with 3:47 remaining in the third quarter.

On Riverdale's next two possessions, Mundy's Mill got two turnovers (an interception by Kerry Leonard and a fumble recovery by Peterson) but the Tigers weren't able to capitalize.

With about 5:03 remaining, Riverdale was forced to punt but Mundy's Mill botched the return and Riverdale recovered at the Mundy's Mill 34.

The Raiders tied the game at 13-all when Colbert scored on a 2-yard run. Riverdale had the chance to go up 14-13 but Mundy's Mill blocked the extra point attempt by Abdul Cole.

Riverdale had one last chance to win the game in regulation.

On a third-and-1, Mundy's Mill fumbled the snap and Riverdale recovered with about 17 seconds remaining.

With 10 seconds remaining, Cole attempted a 46-yard field goal but it was no good.

Saturday's game marked the second time this season Riverdale has had an overtime game. Last Friday, Riverdale lost 23-20 to Lovejoy in overtime.
