Friday night could have been a perfect evening for playing a high school football game.
Earlier in the day the rain left, the skies cleared and sunshine and blue skies even made an appearance in the Southern Crescent less than 24-hours after Hurricane Ivan blew across Georgia causing flooding and downing trees and power lines.
Despite the change for the better in the weather, it was too late for many high school football teams, as only handful of teams in the Southern Crescent managed to get their games played on Friday night.
Other games were rescheduled for Saturday and Monday.
At Eagle's Landing, the Golden Eagles and the Upson-Lee Knights waited until Friday morning to call off their scheduled Region 3-AAAA North football game. The two teams will play Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in McDonough.
Upson-Lee comes into the contest with a 3-1 record, while Eagle's Landing (1-2) enters the subregion contest with hopes of getting to .500 overall on the season.
Also, today, the Mundy's Mill Tigers (1-2-1) and East Coweta (2-2) Indians will play in a late Saturday afternoon game in Sharpsburg. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
For the Tigers, it will be the first region football game in the school's history. The three-year-old football program played a junior varsity season in 2002 and a non-region schedule in 2003.
Local football fans can also enjoy some Monday night football high school style when the North Clayton Eagles play the Mt. Zion Bulldogs at Tara Stadium, and Forest Park takes on Jonesboro at Twelve Oaks Stadium in a pair of make-up games.
Kickoff for Monday's contest between the county rivals in 7:30 p.m. at both locations.
Although it will be played three days later than normally scheduled, the North Clayton (3-0) and Mt. Zion (3-0) game is arguably one of the marquee match ups in the state.
Both teams enter the contest with 3-0 records and a chance to crack the Associated Press Top-10 Class AAAA poll next with a victory.
At Twelve Oaks, Jonesboro (1-1-1) seeks its second win of the year, while Forest Park (0-3) looks for its first victory of the season.
