Matt Manry set the tone for Mt. Vernon immediately against Bible Baptist of Savannah on Friday.
Manry returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a score, and the Crusaders cruised from there on in a 48-0 blowout victory over the Braves.
Nathan Cook scored a pair of rushing touchdowns as Mt. Vernon racked up 208 yards on offense and another 155 on returns. Cook finished with 70 yards on seven carries while teammate Kevin Hall rushed four times for 25 yards and a touchdown.
Clayton Fielder, John Fairley and Jackie Wright also had touchdowns in the victory for Mt. Vernon.
n Colonial Hills 28, People's Baptist 20: People's Baptist tried to rally from a 20-8 halftime deficit, but came up short despite two touchdowns from Brent Kuhn. Quarterback Lance Abercrombie threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to teammate Louie Dryka, who also added an interception defensively in the loss.
