During his years at Jonesboro High School, Toney Douglas led the Cardinals to unprecedented success on the basketball court.
The Cardinals made the state semi-finals two years in a row, they were state runners-up in 2003 and made state tournament for three years in a row.
Douglas went on to Auburn where he definitely made an impact in his freshman season this year. He led the team with 16.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this year.
Here's a glance at how other local players did this year at the collegiate level:
Former Lovejoy standout Josh Barker played in 14 games in his sophomore season at Savannah State. He averaged 9.8 points per game.
Former North Clayton standout Josh Brewster played in eight games in his freshman season this year at Alabama State.
Former Stockbridge standout Quin Humphrey led Youngstown State in scoring this year with 14.4 points per game. The sophomore also averaged 5.4 rebounds per game.
Chris McFarland, a 2001 Riverdale graduate, averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 points per game in his senior season at Appalachian State.
Former Eagle's Landing High School student J.R. Pinnock averaged 13.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in his sophomore season at George Washington. The Colonials, who were ranked for part of the season, made it to the NCAA tournament but lost to Georgia Tech in the first round.
Former North Clayton standout Anthony Rice, a senior, averaged 10.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for Memphis. Rice ranks as one of the top 3-point shooters in school history.
Terrence Woodyard, a 2001 Mt. Zion graduate, averaged 4.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in his senior season at Western Carolina.
Former Morrow standout Kirby Copeland averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in her sophomore season at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech made the NCAA women's tournament but lost to DePaul in the first round.
Former North Clayton standout Kim Jordan played in 12 games this season for North Carolina A&T. She is a sophomore.
Former Riverdale standout and Tulane freshman Dominique Philpots averaged 11 minutes per game this year. She averaged 3.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Former Riverdale standout and current Georgia Tech junior Jessica Williams averaged 4.9 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Lady Yellow Jackets. She was a team captain this season.
