A 2-year old, whose disappearance led to an Amber Alert Monday afternoon, is safe with her mother in Conley after being illegally taken by her father, who, police also say stole the mother's car and a large sum of money.
James McCullough, 29, was pulled over in Forest Park and charged with two counts of theft by taking and interfering with custody, said Clayton County Police Capt. Jeff Turner.
The child, Kaitlin McCullough, was found safe inside the Pontiac LeSabre, he said.
McCullough was not charged with kidnapping because he lived with the mother and child and frequently took Kaitlin out of the house, Turner said.
What worried the mother and the authorities was his theft of the money, Turner said.
"He can be high and driving around," he said. "It's not beyond people to sell the baby for drugs."
Turner said nothing indicated McCullough was attempting to sell the child but included it as a possible scenario.
