To the editor:
In January the citizens of Jonesboro received a slap in the face from the mayor and city council. Out of this shock a community civic group was formed called Jonesboro Pride, and its members set out on a mission to never be blindsided again.
We began looking into the inner workings of city hall and were shocked that there were no checks and balances. But along the way we have made many new friends, got to know most of the elderly with their vast knowledge of the city and learned that watching out for each other is really what is most important.
We still have lots of battles to fight politically, but as we continue our efforts to clean up city hall, we have realized it will be a lot like cleaning out your grandmother's attic. You work hard to throw out the junk but discover lots of treasures in the process.
