Police say a College Park man took his girlfriend's 18-month-old baby and her car after arguing with her about taking him to Columbus.
Courtney White, 26, and his girlfriend 24-year-old Magdyamith Orival apparently began arguing around 10:35 a.m. Friday when 911 dispatchers received calls in which the phone was then hung up, Clayton County Police Capt. Tim Robinson said. At one point White hit Orival, took the little girl and the keys to Orival's 1992 green Toyota Camry and left the apartment on Riverdale Road where White and Orival lived together.
White is not the father of the baby, authorities said. He dropped the child off with a friend later Friday morning but was still at large in the Camry as of Friday afternoon.
Robinson said White is expected to be charged with interference with custody, battery and theft by taking in connection with the incident. An Amber Alert was not issued.
Kidnapping is a felony charge that involves taking a person and holding them against their will. Interference with custody is a misdemeanor for the first and second offense and deals with anybody who in some way interferes with a person's custody over a child, Robinson said. This could include harboring a runaway child. On the third offense it becomes a felony, Robinson sid.
White was on probation for a criminal trespassing charge related to a previous domestic dispute with Orival, Robinson said.
