Morrow's Michael Proctor had a pretty good day Thursday at the annual Clayton County Track and Field Championships. Proctor, a senior, set county meet records in the 400-meter run (42.91) and 300-meter hurdles (38.38) and his team won the county title, outpacing North Clayton 123-103. "I feel really great about getting the records," Proctor said. "This is something I've worked hard for, so I was glad to get them." Proctor's 400-meter record topped Morrow's Lawrence Jackson's 49.02-second performance in 2003. The previous 300-meter hurdle record was held by Riverdale's Dainon Sidney, who went on to play in the NFL and was on the Tennessee Titans' AFC championship team in 1999. Sidney set the 300-meter hurdle record in the mid-1990s. "That's great," Proctor said of breaking the 300-meter hurdle record. "It's my first year running hurdles, I was just wanting to win." Proctor is expected to go on to the collegiate level and is looking to sign a scholarship with Georgia. "It's great for Michael," Morrow head coach Sam Pennypacker said. "It was pretty much a given that he was going to get the 400 record and the 300 record is a bonus." Pennypacker added that Proctor's slowest 400-meter time this year was faster than the county record. Other Morrow boys who won events were Chris Christie in the pole vault, Tyson Bonner in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs, Reggie Williams in the 100-meter dash and Brandon Norman in the 110-meter hurdles. The Morrow boys also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Lovejoy's Chris Hail won the most events in the boys meet as he placed first in the triple jump, long jump and 200-meter dash. Mundy's Mill won the girls meet, 19 points ahead of the Riverdale Lady Raiders, last year's county, Region 4-AAAAA and Class AAAAA state champions. Several Mundy's Mill girls won individual events including Christian Hunnicutt in the discus, Crystal Davis in the 3,200-meter run, Laide Onikoyi in the 800-meter run, and Sarah Omatayo in 100-meter dash. Mundy's Mill also swept the relay events. Riverdale had four individual winners with Tanika Gray in the high jump, Marinda Allen in the triple jump, Amber Thrash in the 300-meter hurdles and Nia Muhammad in the 100-meter hurdles. 2005 Clayton County Track and Field Championships Boys Final team standings 1.
