Clayton County Police Department's "Operation SMASH" netted an Oregon murder suspect on Monday.
Police Officer Jeremy Hutto was patrolling near Jonesboro High School as part of Operation Strategic Methods Against Street Harm around 12:50 p.m. when he stopped 17-year-old Christopher Tracey Lomax for questioning, Clayton County Police Capt. Jeff Turner said.
Hutto discovered that the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office near Portland, Oregon had a warrant for Lomax's arrest on a charge of murder and five counts of attempted murder. Lomax was arrested and is being held for extradition, Turner said.
Operation SMASH, which is intended to target the perimeter around certain schools in which there have been complaints of criminal activity, netted 17 people total on Monday in the area around Jonesboro High School. The charges against those people included truancy and giving false information to a police officer.
