Jonesboro swept past both Luella and Banneker Thursday afternoon to stay unbeaten on the 2005 season. The Lady Cardinals defeated Luella 25-18, 25-11 and equally dominated Banneker 25-12 and 25-10. Prep softball Jonesboro 17, Washington 0: Lady Cardinals pitcher Heather Lowry impressively struck out 11 of 12 batters she faced in a dominating effort that also included 4 RBIs at the plate. Offensively for Jonesboro, Donisha Harrison also had two hits and two RBI. Kelssie Currin went 3 for 4 with two RBI and Heather McCarty also drove in a pair of Lady Cardinal runs. Jessica Martin and Megan Baity each had RBIs for Jonesboro in the win ELCA 3, Mt. Zion-Carroll 1. The Eagle's Landing Christian Academy Lady Chargers picked up a huge region victory Thursday night, defeating last year's Region 5-A champions 3-1 in nine innings. Rachel Irby drove in the winnings runs and Hope Rush struck out 14. Luella 1, Eagle's Landing 0: The Luella Lady Lions won an old-fashion pitchers' duel Thursday afternoon, defeating their region and county rivals 1-0. Dutchtown 3, Upson Lee 0: Rachel Wise and Amber Cassell both had RBI doubles and Kelsey Sponable pitched a two-hitter and finished with six strikeouts. Union Grove 1, Morgan County O: The top-ranked Union Grove Lady Wolverines beat Morgan County 1-0 in eight innings. Lauren Peters scored the winning run.More like this story
