Jonesboro police make further arrests in theft ring

Jonesboro police have made more arrests in connection with a theft ring they originally uncovered Tuesday.

On Tuesday police arrested Angela Duncan, 26, and Mitchell Swygert, 42, both of 113 Render St., Jonesboro, and Ginger Betsill, 37, of Riverdale, after discovering drugs and stolen property, including three motorcycles, at the home of Duncan and Swygert, Jonesboro Police Department Sgt. Wayne Woods said.

At that time another suspect, Mitchell Swygert's 44-year-old brother, Richard Swygert, who was seen loading one of the stolen motorcycles onto a trailer, escaped, Woods said.

Investigators also noticed a black Nissan Sentra that belonged to Mitchell Swygert.

Around noon on Wednesday Jonesboro Police Sgt. Kenny Law went by the Render Street home and saw that the Nissan was missing. Law found the car at about 3:30 p.m. at a house at 120 Rogers Ave.

Woods and another officer joined Law and the three of them knocked on the door. They spoke to Brandon Barnett, 29, of Jonesboro, who showed them a piece of paper giving him permission from Richard Swygert to take the car.

Woods said they sensed that something was wrong, so they searched the house and found Richard Swygert and 24-year-old Robert Beall of Griffin hiding behind furniture in a room upstairs. They arrested Swygert and Beall.

At that time the owner of the house, 36-year-old Tim Bradley Jr., came home, and with Bradley's consent the officers called in a police dog to search the house.

After the search they found 12 grams of methamphetamine, some Ecstasy, drug-related objects, $1,500 in cash, three weapons, jewelry, computers and "lots of cell phones."

Beall and Richard Swygert were charged with theft by receiving and possession of the drugs, and Beall was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Bradley and Barnett were charged with disorderly conduct as were the other people in the house. They were Amy Suddugh, 20, of McDonough, Jennifer Henderson, 19, of Locust Grove, and Kristina Deleshaw-Rodin, 23, of Jonesboro.
