Lake City State Rep. Ron Dodson, 64, is resigned to bed rest for at least three weeks after suffering a heart attack causing 20 percent damage to his heart, his wife said.

Katherine Dodson said doctors told her he was lucky to survive.

Dodson has served in the state House of Representatives since 1998.

His wife thanked the community for all the support they have provided.

The couple is celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary.

"The best gift I can have is him," she said.

Another public servant is also recovering. Sen. Terrell Starr, 79, had hernia surgery Saturday.

Starr is the longest serving legislator in the General Assembly.

He said he would return to the job Monday.
