Lovejoy girls stay unbeaten

With just one more game remaining in the regular season, the Lovejoy Middle School girls basketball team secured the No.1 seed in the upcoming tournament with a 52-14 win against Forest Park.

Lovejoy stayed unbeaten with a 10-0 record.

"We played a little bit sloppy," said Lovejoy coach Greg Shook. "We need to play better with the tournament coming up."

Courtney Crooms led the winning effort with a 16-point performance. Jasmine Lee and Shaneese Heard tossed in 10 points each.

M.D. Roberts 41, Riverdale 13 (girls): The M.D. Roberts Middle School girls basketball team put together a strong defensive effort Thursday afternoon and beat Riverdale 41-13.

M.D. Roberts used a balanced scoring attack en route to the win as Joi Holyfield led with 9 points and Jasmine Parker and Erika Slaughter added eight points each.

"The whole team played great man -to-man defense," said coach Holly Toler. "I'm pretty happy with the way they are playing defense. They do the things it takes."

Morrow 30, Jonesboro 15 (girls): Chandler finished the game with a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds as the Morrow Middle School girls' basketball team doubled the scoring on Jonesboro.

With the win, Morrow improved to 9-1.

Morrow 47, Jonesboro 22 (boys): Tony Dukes scored 14 points as Morrow improved its record to 8-2 with the win.

Lovejoy 43, Forest Park 41 (boys): Marquis Quiles and Punch Yancey scored eight points each for Lovejoy (8-2), which came back from 14 points down in the first half. Lovejoy closes the regular season Monday against North Clayton.

Pointe South 31, Kendrick 28 (girls): Kristen Scott and Twenecie Twice led Kendrick with nine points each. Kendrick improves to 9-1.
