Betty Rowe Schwantes

Mrs. Betty Rowe Schwantes, age 69, of Locust Grove, Georgia, peacefully passed away at home on January 20, 2005 from complications of Breast Cancer.

Betty was born on June 29, 1935, in Columbus, Mississippi and was the daughter of the late Jack Thomas Rowe and Mary Colvin Rowe. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Attress Thomas Schwantes Jr., in April 2001 after 48 years of marriage. She was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and an inspiration to all with whom she came into contact. Betty's biggest pleasure was her family and homemaking skills complemented with teaching her granddaughters the fine art of shopping and Clinique Bonus Time. The highlight of the year was the day after Thanksgiving where she enjoyed the day shopping with all of her girls. Betty's family would eagerly await Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner where she would prepare their favorite dishes. Everyone agreed that no one could cook like "Nana" especially her turkey and dressing. Betty will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, humor, beautiful smile and enthusiastic greeting for everyone she met. The love she shared with her family and friends will live on for years to come.

She is survived by her children, Patsy Schwantes and Thomas D. Schwantes both of McDonough, Georgia, Russell B. and Athena Schwantes of Fayetteville, Georgia, son-in-law, Johnny M. Stewart of Locust Grove, Georgia and daughter-in-law, LaJean Schwantes of McDonough, Georgia. Mrs. Schwantes is also survived by her sister Aline Rowe and her husband Bob Hubbard of Northport, Alabama, her granddaughters Kim Stewart, Brook, Kasey, Holly and Morgan Schwantes and great granddaughter Alexandria.

Funeral services for Betty Schwantes will be Saturday, January 22, 2005 - 2:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Doug Gilreath and Rev. Ron Capes officiating. Interment will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
