On Jan 21, 2005, Ilene Florence Hendrickson went to be with her Lord at her home surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Hendrickson was 58 and resided in Forest Park, Georgia since 1984.
She devoted her life to caring for children and the elderly.
As a member of Ash Street Baptist Church, she volunteered her time to the First Grade Sunday School class and various other church functions. "Can I Help?" seemed to be her motto in life. Her proudest accomplishment was receiving her L.P.N. from DeKalb Tech at the age of 43 and caring for her geriatric patients in the nursing home. Those who knew her will remember her willingness to help others selflessly. She had four great loves in her life. First being her faith in God and love of Jesus Christ. Second was her husband of 27 years. Third was her children and grandchildren. Fourth was her love of nursing.
Survivors include her husband John Hendrickson; daughters, Elizabeth Johnson, Kathleen Cominski, Robin Gaurin and Jonbelle Williamson; sons, William Joseph Grohe and Darrell Bentley. She leaves behind one sister, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her daughter Elizabeth (Libby) Johnson has established a scholarship in her name at the St. Augustine Academy of Performing Arts in St. Augustine, Fla. in honor of her legacy of love, support and encouragement for children.
Viewing times will be between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005. Services will be held on Monday, Jan. 24 at Parkway Chapel in Forest Park, Ga. They will led by Pastor Randy Cheek. Patients, students and friends are welcome to attend. Entombment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving guests after the service in the fellowship hall of the Ash Street Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to Ash Street Baptist Church, 5370 Ash Street, Forest Park, Ga. 30297.
