The middle school basketball season has hit the home stretch, and for local teams, that means the quest for a county title is about to begin as the annual Clayton County Middle School tournament tips off tonight.
The girls' half of the bracket takes center stage tonight, as the tournament opens at Pointe South and Kendrick.
In the 5 p.m. games, Mundy's Mill plays Forest Park at Kendrick. Adamson plays North Clayton at Pointe South.
At 6:15, Kendrick plays a game on its own court against Riverdale. At Pointe South, Babb plays Jonesboro.
Top-seed Lovejoy, No. 2-seed Morrow, No.-3 seed, Pointe South, and No.-4 seed M.D. Roberts received first-round byes and won't play their first games until Saturday at Kendrick.
The first boys' games of the Clayton County tournament will be played on Friday, also at Kendrick and Pointe South. In the 5 p.m. games, North Clayton plays M.D. Roberts at Pointe South, while Babb and Jonesboro play at 5 p.m . at Kendrick.
At 6:15, Riverdale plays Pointe South at Pointe South and Kendrick is also at home against Adamson.
Top-seed Mundy's Mill, No.-2 seed Morrow, No.-3 Lovejoy and No.-4 Forest Park earned first-round byes in the boys' division.
The four quarterfinals games in both the boys and girls games will be played throughout the day Saturday at Kendrick Middle School.
The tournament shifts to M.D. Roberts for the semifinals and finals.
Quarterfinals games will be played on Monday, with the girls playing at 5 and 7:30 p.m.
The boys' quarterfinals will be played at 6:15 and 8:45.
Championship action will take place next Thursday with the girls game starting at 5 p.m . and the boys game taking place at 6:30.
