Alan Hawkins

Mr. Alan Hawkins, of Barnesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at his residence. He was 43.

Mr. Hawkins was a native of Alexandria, Va., but had made his home in Lamar County for a number of years. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Hawkins was self-employed as an electrician.

He is survived by his parents, Ivan and Nancy Hawkins, of Milner; brother, Brent Hawkins, of Milner; grandmother, Edna Hawkins, of Sparta, Mo.; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral Services for Mr. Hawkins were to be held today at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Wlliams Funeral Home of Barnesville, with interment in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. William Marvin Blankenship

Mr. William Marvin Blankenship, age 85, of Stockbridge, died Jan. 29, 2005. Mr. Blankenship was born May 18, 1919, in Henry County, the son of the late Viola Mae Moss and Joseph Robinson Blankenship. He was a member of Waters Chapel Holiness Church, where he had previously pastored for 28 years. He had retired as a salesman for Wheeler Lumber Company. Mr. Blankenship enjoyed working, word working and his loving family.

He was preceded in death by children, William Alton Blankenship, Meryel Turner and Grady Marvin Blankenship; siblings, J.R. Blankenship, Beuron Blankenship, Lily Johnson, Frances Garrard and Lee Hugh Blankenship. Survivors are his wife, Lilia Ruth Weaver Blankenship, of Stockbridge; children, J.D. and Marsha Blankenship, of Stockbridge, David and Emma Lou Blankenship, of Stockbridge, Carol and Ricky Baines, of Rockmart; stepchildren, Morde Spencer, of Stockbridge, Deborah Pierce, of Hapeville, and Ira Neal aand Judy Spencer, of Stockbridge; siblings, Pauline Burton, of Stockbridge, and Calvin Blankenship, of Sugar Valley; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Blankenship were to be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Pastor Carol Renfroe officiating. Interment will be at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Nellie Morris

Mrs. Nellie Morris, of Ellenwood, passed away Friday, Jan. 28. 2005. Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband, Mr. George Morris, and they have been married for 57 years and have live in Ellenwood for the past 45 years. She is also survived by two sons, Mr. Danny Morris, of Ellenwood, and Mr. Ricky Morris and his wife, Kathy Morris, of Ellenwood; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Pope Dickson & Son Morrow chapel, with Pastor Barry Garland officiating. Irma Feagle Chafin

Mrs. Irma Feagle Chafin, age 87, of McDonough, died Jan. 29, 2005, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living at Eagle's Landing of Stockbridge. Mrs. Chafin was born April 1, 1917, in Lake City, Fla., the daughter of the late Nora Toney and Daniel Marshal Feagle. Mrs. Chafin graduated from Columbia High School Class of 1935 of Lake City, Fla. She was a member of McDonough Presbyterian Church, worked as a supervisor for Georgia State Merit Employment Service Division, co-owned McDonough Cleaners and Laundry, which was later called Chafin Cleaners, was an avid golfer at Green Valley Golf Club, winning local and statewide tournaments, was a member of McDonough Women's Club, Elks Club and Moose Club, was a Henry County Fair Volunteer, assisted with American Legion functions, was a volunteer with the LPGA Chick-fil-A tournament in the hospitality suite, was a member of a local travel club, and enjoyed gardening and sharing her flowers with others, china painting and cooking.

Mrs. Chafin was preceded in death by her husband, William Aiken Chafin Sr. on July 12, 1989. Survivors are her children, William Aiken Chafin Jr. and wife, Sue, of Kellytown, Dr. John Michael Chafin and wife, Kathy, of Jonesboro, and Dr. Joe. S. Chafin and wife, Sharon, of Stockbridge; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Irma Chafin will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. in the McDonough Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dudley Rose, Rev. Randy Calvo and Rev. James Miller officiating. Interment will be in the McDonough City Cemetery. Austin E. "Stell" Davis

Mr. Austin E. "Stell" Davis, age 80, of McDonough, passed away on Jan. 28, 2005. Mr. Davis was born in Wheeler County, Georgia, on July 18, 1924, the son of the late Austin and Nora Gillis Davis. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a gunner in the 746th Tank Battalion. A participant in the D-Day landing, he achieved the rank of corporal and was awarded the Silver Star for "gallantry in action" on July 24, 1944, near St. Lo, France. He was a member of The Rock Baptist Church, in Rex, where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Davis, a retired truck driver, is preceded in death by stepmother, Matra Davis, and sister, Effie Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleene Davis; children, Ned and Dawn Davis, Norma and Larry Adams, and Jackie and Don Davis; sisters, Betty Jane Massey and Tat Fennelli; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at The Rock Baptist Church in Rex. Interment will be at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Edwin "Eddie"

Hawkins Gregory

Mr. Edward "Eddie" Hawkins Gregory, age 82, of Ellenwood, died Jan. 27, 2005. Mr. Hawkins, formerly of Benton, Ky., was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired as a mechanic from Texas Gas.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his father, David Gregory; mother, Dora Hawkins Gregory; wife, Alline (Noles) Gregory; brothers, Roy Gregory and Arlie Gregory; and sisters, Flora Bennett, Flossie Sledd, Jeannie Poole and Floy Stringer. He is survived by a son, David Gregory, of Ellenwood, and a sister, Vera Cox, of Benton, Ky.
