Youth league tournaments heat up

July is going to be a busy month in McDonough when it comes to youth sports.

Several state baseball tournaments begin this week and later in the month, McDonough will play host to three different World Series.

Here is a glance at upcoming tournaments:

The AABC 5-6 T-Ball sub-state tournament is July 5-11 and the state tournament will be July 12-18.

The AABC Roberto Clemente (7-8) state tournament is July 5-11, the Southeast Regional is July 14-21 and the World Series is July 21-24.

The AABC Willie Mays (9-10) state tournament is July 5-11.

The AABC Sandy Koufax (Single Age 13) state tournament is July 12-17.

Henry County High School will play host to the AABC Connie Mack (17-18) state tournament July 12-18.

The 7-year-old Dizzy Dean World Series will be held July 14-19 at Windy Hill and Heritage Parks.

The ISA Girls Fast-Pitch Softball World Series will be held July 20-24 in Rockdale, Newton and Henry counties. The Henry County sites will be Heritage and Moseley Parks.

In addition to the competitive league tournaments, Locust Grove's Warren Holder Park will play host to the AABC Sandy Koufax (13-14) State Tournament. The 10-team event begins July 5.

Teams participating include the Fairview Rangers, DeKalb Mets, Riverdale Yankees, Brown's Mill Yankees, Locust Grove Sharks, Sharpsburg Cardinals, Sharpsburg Astros, Jonesboro Reds, North Henry A's and the host team Locust Grove Roughriders.

Area coaches, scorekeepers or other team officials are asked to call in information from their games to the Daily at 770 478-5753 Ext. 280. The deadline for reporting information is 10:30 p.m.

Any information reported to the paper should contain the correct spellings of first and last names.

Results containing last names only will not be published.

Information should contain the correct score the first and last names of leading contributors, including offesive and pitching statistics.

Information should also include the team's age bracket and location of the tournament as well as the schedule for the team's next game.
