A Riverdale man who told police that he had accidentally shot himself in the chest later died from the wound. The man, 48-year-old Phillip Webb, told officers when they arrived around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at his house on Bay Court that he had heard a noise at his back door, took his gun to investigate and shot himself, according to a Clayton County police report. Webb could not explain exactly how he shot himself in the left upper chest. Webb was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died. A .22-caliber handgun was found unloaded beneath a bedroom dresser with .22-caliber rounds nearby. Bullets for other caliber guns and a holster were also found but no other weapon. Also, there was no evidence of an intruder in the house.More like this story
