Parents reminded to register children for school

By Johnny Jackson

Ken Sanders, coordinator of school counseling services, encourages all parents and guardians in the Clayton County School district to register their students. This Operation Registration begins Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"It's our big initiative to try to let everyone know how important it is to have their children register before the first day of school," Sanders said. "It is our desire for all students of Clayton County to be fully registered, in their seats, and ready to learn from the very first day of school."

Sanders mentioned the earlier registration would also bring more focus and attention to "Projection Day One."

"That's the day when all community members are asked to come to school and help our students get started on the right track," he said. "We expect students to be in school from day one until day 180. And we expect parents to be very active so that we can have a successful school year."

Sanders said all schools will be open for student registration: again, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2; from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3; from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5.

No registration is required for students who were enrolled and attending school in the Clayton County school district last year. Nor will students, registered in the district's 2005-06 pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs, need to register for school in the district.

According to Sanders, parents or guardians of prospective students in the district need: two types of proof of residency, student's birth certificate, a verification of guardianship, student's Georgia Immunization DHR Certificate of Immunization Form 3231, student's Hearing, Vision, and Dental Certificate Form 3300, student's documentation of grade placement, a social security card, student's discipline information (for students, grade seven and above), and proof of identification.
