Carlton Eugene (Gene) Sledge, age 74, of Hiawassee, formerly of Morrow, Ga. passed away on July 26, 2005 of Lung Cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Edith Welden Sledge of Hiawassee; daughters, Letitia Sledge Judy (John) of Peachtree City, Ga., Elizabeth Jean Sledge (Shannon McNeal) of Lake City, Ga., and Susan Sledge Culpepper (Jim) of Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Daniel Eugene Judy, Christopher Ray Judy, Laura Kathleen Judy, and Edward Cates Culpepper; brother, Allen Hilt Sledge of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
His parents, John Carlton Sledge and Kitty Doris Jones preceded him in death. Gene was born in LaGrange, Ga. on March 31, 1931. He was an Eagle Scout, served four years in the United States Navy, and was a Korean War Veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he attended Auburn University and later graduated from Georgia State University. Gene was the majority stock holder and President of Everett Seed, Inc. of Atlanta, Ga.; past President and Life Member of the Georgia Seedsman Association; a Life Member of the United Methodist Men; a Member of the Hiawassee United Methodist Church and a former member of the Jones Memorial United Methodist Church of Lake City, Ga.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 1 p.m. from the Hiawassee United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Blair officiating.
