A former Atlanta police officer who lives in Clayton County has been convicted of bank robbery. On Thursday a federal jury found Stanley Street, 45, of Jonesboro, guilty of three counts of armed bank robbery in connection with three robberies of two Wachovia Bank branches in Atlanta, according to the office of David Nahmias, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. A 17-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department, Street apparently robbed the banks because he was having financial difficulties personally and with his company, "Atlanta's Finest." Street acted in a particularly violent manner during the robberies and he was also convicted of three counts of using a firearm in the commission of a crime. Street could be sentenced to a maximum of 25 years for each robbery and faces a minimum sentence of 57 years for the three firearms counts.More like this story
