Kidnapping suspect denied bond

By Ed Brock

The man accused of shooting his girlfriend's father, kidnapping her children and driving to North Carolina has been denied bond.

A bond hearing was held Friday in Clayton County Magistrate Court for 27-year-old Terrance McDowell who is charged with rape, burglary, aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping and theft by taking a motor vehicle.

The charges stem from a March 22 incident in which McDowell allegedly went to the Conley home of 64-year-old Marshall Wright, sexually assaulted 20-year-old Chrystal Wright and kidnapped Chrystal Wright's two children.

The assault happened early in the morning at the Conley home where Wright lives with Marshall Wright, his girlfriend and Wright's two children, 4-year-old Faith McDowell and her half brother 5-year-old Jaquan Wright, said Clayton County Police Capt. Jeff Turner. Turner said that after sexually assaulting Wright and shooting her father who was still in bed, McDowell took the children and Wright's car and drove to Greensboro, N.C.

McDowell, who is the father of the 4-year-old girl but who has no custodial rights to her, left both children at his sister's house and later turned himself in to federal authorities in Greensboro.
