Daniel "Dan" Shephard Goolsbee, age 79, of Morrow, peacefully passed away June 4, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Marian; sons, John and Renee, of Forest Park, and Keith and Teri, of Carrollton, Texas; and grandchildren, Jonathan and Ashley, of Forest Park, and Leer, Andrew and Melissa, of Carrollton, Texas.
Dan was born in Rusk, Texas, on Aug. 24, 1925. Dan was married to the former Marian Ruth Jones, of Rusk, Texas, in 1952, and they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary last December.
Dan enlisted in the navy during World War II before finishing high school. He spent about three years in the navy as a Pharmacist Mate First Class, where he participated in the liberation of Guam. After the war ended, Dan was discharged from the navy and began attending Lon Morris College and Sam Houston State College in Texas.
In 1948, Dan re-enlisted in the Army in the Medical Service Corps and served at several posts within the United States, Germany. Korea, Okinawa and Thailand. Dan was serving at Fort Gillem in Forest Park when he retired with honors in 1970 as a lieutenant colonel after 25 years of military service.
He accepted a position as Director of Building Services at DeKalb General Hospital, where he was employed for another 20 years, retiring again in 1990. Dan was an innovator in hospital building engineering and is a past president of the American Society of Hospital Engineering.
Dan was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Morrow for many years and was active in the Gideons Ministry. Dan and Marian are currently members of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.

The family will receive friends today at Tara Gardens Chapel, 681 North Ave., in Jonesboro, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Gladys Nichols, age 79, of Riverdale, passed away at her home on June 4, 2005.
She was a member of Ash Street Baptist Church and volunteered at Southern regional Medical Center for 32 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Nichols. Mrs. Nichols is survived by three children, Carol Laster, Bob Nichols and Judy Vrancker; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ash Street Baptist Church in Morrow, with the Rev. Randy Cheek officiating. The visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pope Dickson and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro. The burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. William Michael Bourland
Michael Bourland, age 47, of Forest Park, passed away June 3, 2005. He is preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Bourland. He is survived by his two children, Carolyn Jan and Ashton; his mother, Gladys Thomas; a sister, Carole Matz; a step-brother, David and Evette Thomas; two step-sisters, Laura and Russell McNair, and Lisa and Billy Reeves; an uncle, Hoytt and Evelyn Young; an aunt, Deanne Young; and a host of cousins and friends.
Michael was an employee of Wholesale Food in Forest Park. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
