When he was in 10th grade, Kevin Lewis had the chance to announce a girls basketball game at Union Grove High School. Through his senior year, Lewis became a constant at Union Grove athletic events, becoming the 'Voice of Union Grove High School,' as he announced basketball, football and soccer.
Now, the recent graduate has been recognized for his work as the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers selected him as the 2004-0 NASPAA Georgia High School Student Announcer of the Year.
"I'm pretty excited to win the award," he said.
Lewis plans to major in broadcasting at Georgia College and State University. He wants to pursue a career as a PA announcer but is also interested in radio and television.
His ultimate goal is to become a PA announcer for a professional team.
"That is a goal, whether it's attainable or not, we'll see but it's a goal," Lewis said.
Union Grove athletic director Scott Mason said Lewis added much to Union Grove's sporting events of the years.
"I'm ecstatic," Mason said. "He's worked for us for three years and has done an excellent job. He's a good kid, top-notch. He'll be successsful in anything he tries.
