Local duo picked for all-star contest

Megan Throckmorton and Leandra Hines from Union Grove will play in the annual Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all-star softball game, which will be played Wednesday, June15 at Kennesaw State University.

The first game of the fast-pitch doubleheader willbegin at 4 p.m.

Shepard, Allison win couples event

Debra Shepard and Tony Allison posted a net score of 59 to win first place in the monthly couples scramble tournament played at Lake Spivey Golf Club on Sunday afternoon, June 12.

Second place with a net 60 went to Kate and Doug Murray while the team of Brenda Yelling and Randy Robinson placed third at 63. Ande Blevins won closest-to-the-pin honors among lady golfers and Doug Murray was closest among the men.

ESPN to televise UGA-S.Carolina football game

ATHENS - Georgia's Sept. 10 home game against South Carolina has been set for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff time, school officials announced Monday.

The game will be televised by ESPN, putting the Bulldogs on the network for each of their first two games.

Georgia's Sept. 3 season opener in Athens against Boise State already had been set for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.

Georgia's first three games will be played at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs play host to Louisiana Monroe on Sept. 17 and then play three consecutive road games at Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
