Rising Jonesboro High School senior Jasmine Duffey is going to have a festive summer.
Duffey has been picked to play in the USA Basketball Women's Youth Development Festival from June 15-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The program will feature 36 of the nation's top rising senior girls basketball players.
Duffey, who had averaged a triple double in the 2004-05 season and helped lead Jonesboro to the Class AAAAA state quarterfinals in 2005, will be playing on the USA Blue Team. The Blue team features one other player from Georgia, Beach High School's Christy Marshall.
"We're pretty excited for her," Jonesboro girls basketball head coach John Kovzel said. "It's awesome."
Other participants from Georgia include Redan's Porsha Phillips who will be playing for the USA Red Team, Mays' Nikkita Gartrell who will be playing for the USA White Team, and Southwest DeKalb's Kathy Richy-Walton, who will be coaching the USA White Team.
The program will feature three 12-player teams from the United State (Red, White and Blue) and one from Canada (the Canadian U-17 National Team).
The four squads will square off in three games of round-robin preliminary play before being seeded and playing in the festival's semifinals and medal round.
The USA players were selected by the USA Basketball Women's Junior Developmental Committee.
