According to the www.auburntigers.com website, former Jonesboro High School basketball standout Toney Douglas has been granted release by Auburn to any non-SEC school.

"Toney is a good kid. I feel that last year was extremely positive as he had an outstanding freshman season at Auburn," Lebo said. "Unfortunately, there were some unrealistic demands and expectations placed upon Auburn basketball and the coaching staff. Due to the untimely nature of this decision, it will be extremely difficult to fill Toney's scholarship. I feel the program gave him every opportunity to achieve both his individual and team goals. We wish Toney the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Douglas also recently declared for the upcoming NBA draft but hasn't signed with an agent. By not signing with an agent, Douglas is still free to go back to the college ranks.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Douglas earned Freshman All-America first-team honors as he was ranked fourth in the SEC averaging 16.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals last season.

While at Jonesboro, Douglas helped lead the Cardinals to three straight state playoff appearances including a Final 4 appearance in 2002 and a state-runner up finish in 2003.

Douglas is the all-time leading scorer in Clayton County history.
