Hammett, J. Wendell
J. Wendell Hammett died at the age of 63 on June 15, 2005 from complications of lung cancer.
He was born in Hapeville and lived in McDonough for the last 32 years. He retired from Delta after 33 years of dedicated service. He also worked with his son, Gene, traveling to sporting events like the Masters, Olympics and Kentucky Derby until weeks prior to his death. He was also a member of the Wesley Way United Methodist Church in McDonough. Wendell was proud of his work with the Shriners and took this volunteer work as seriously as any job. He served as president of the Tucker Shrine Club in 1997. He was passionate about raising money for the Shriner's Hospital. His survivors include his wife, Gloria Hammett; three sons, Greg, Chris and Gene; grandson, Ricky Hammett; granddaughter, Marsha Hammett; great grandson, Joseph; sisters, Daisy Hammett Rickett and Dessella Hammett Jones; brother, George W. Hammett; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Wesley Way United Methodist Church in McDonough with interment to follow Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Pastor John Purrington will officiate. The family will receive friends TODAY from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel, Jonesboro. 770-471-7171. Nancy Jane Anderson
Nancy Jane Anderson, age 63, of Hampton passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2005. She is survived by Andy Anderson of Hampton; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Wayne Moss of Stockbridge and son Ricky Glenn of Hampton; brothers, Billy Hunt of Eclactic, Al, Hershel Hunt of Dunwoody, Ga, and Wayne Gibbs of Willimson, Ga; sisters, Lynn Stone of Acworth, Ga, Linda Baldridge of Forest Park, Glenda Warren of Hampton, and Brenda Bond of Hampton; seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Saturday, June 18, 2005 in the Chapel of Ford Stewart Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Dr. Trenton Swanson, Rev. Billy Hunt, and Rev. Jake Anderson officiating.
