A Riverdale man was found hiding in a kudzu patch with an injured hand a few hours after the body of his wife, who was stabbed to death, was found in their apartment a mile away.
James Edward Lott, Jr., 37, of Webb Road was arrested Friday and charged with murder in connection with the killing of his wife, 52-year-old Lorenza Lott, after a Clayton County police dog sniffed him out behind a gas station on Ga. Highway 85 and Warren Drive, according to Clayton County Assistant Police Chief Jeff Turner. James Lott was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. and Lorenza Lott's body was found around 12:55 p.m.
On Friday morning Lorenza Lott's daughter became concerned about her mother not reporting for work. Lott's daughter and nephew went to the apartment in Belmont Landings where the couple lived together.
Maintenance workers at the complex tried to unlock the apartment door but when they were unable to do so the nephew kicked it down.
The daughter and nephew then entered and found the victim face down in the rear master bedroom apparently stabbed to death.
Also, the daughter and nephew told police they saw James Lott leaving the apartment complex on foot as they arrived.
