News Daily wins 17 Georgia Press Association awards

The News Daily won 17 awards in the Georgia Press Association competition, including eight first place awards.

The awards were presented in a banquet over the weekend.

Competing against all Georgia newspapers in its size category, the paper won:

1st place for photo essay for chief photographer Zach Porter.

1st place for spot news photo for Zach Porter.

1st place for news photo for Bill Yoder.

1st place in humorous column for assistant managing editor Bob Paslay.

1st place for education coverage.

1st place for headline writing.

1st place for editorial writing.

1st place, the J.C. Williams Trophy, for the editorial page

2nd place for page one design. The page designer is Heather Middleton.

2nd place for general excellence.

3rd place in sporting writer for sports editor Doug Gorman.

3rd place in sports column for Anthony Rhoads.

3rd place for feature writing for Ed Brock.

3rd place for sports feature photo for Zach Porter.

3rd place for sports photo for Zach Porter.

3rd place, the W. Troy Bankston Trophy, for local news coverage
