One of the teams the Jonesboro Cardinals hoped to beat when they looked at the 2005 schedule was the Fayette County Tigers.
They will have to be satisfied with a tie instead after the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie
After missing a couple of near misses early in the game, Jonesboro scored the first goal of the game when Jonathan Ramos scored on an assist from Kevin Saxby just minutes into the second half.
Saxby has been one of the offense cataylst for the Cardinals so far this season. Early this season Saxby scored nine goals in two games as the Carrdinals beat Stone Mountain and North Clayton. His five goals against North Clayton tied a team record for most goals in the game. Older brother Ryan Saxby also scored five goals in a contest during his career at Jonesboro.
Fayette County scored its goal off a corner kick late in the game. The Tigers' score game after one of its players was ejected from the game after receiving a red card. That forced the squad to play with just 10 players.
Jonesboro goal keeper David Fleming kept the Cardinals in the contest with some impressive saves.
"This is a little disappointing, especially for our seniors," said Jonesboro head coach Keith Fleming. "Still, we played hard against a good team."
Jonesboro gets back to action Monday against Forest Park in a region game.
Fayette County 3, Jonesboro 0: The Lady Cardinals fell behind 1-0 at the end of the first half, and then gave up two goals in the second quarter en route to a 3-0 loss.
Brittney Brooks kept the Lady Cardinals in the game with some bg saves.
