The Lovejoy boys and girls soccer teams followed the same script to victory Friday night.
Both teams scored goals early on their way to non-region wins at Henry County High School.
The girls team beat Henry County 3-0 while the boys won 2-1.
Lovejoy 3, Henry County 0 (girls): The Lady Wildcats (1-4) picked up their first win of the season.
"It feels fantastic," head coach Mike Boerstler said. "We'll definitely build on this."
Andrea Dean kickstarted Lovejoy's offensive attack as she scored just 19 seconds into the contest. At the 33:55 mark, Brittany Beresford extended Lovejoy's lead to 2-0.
"(Starting out well) is the key to all games, especially for us so we won't get down on ourselves and keep a positive attitude. It set the pace for the entire game. I thought both teams played well; I was impressed with Henry County.)
Lovejoy took a 3-0 lead with 5:18 remaining in the game when Aminah Jones scored.
Henry County (3-1) only managed three shots on goal in the first half and none in the second. Henry's best chance at scoring was with about seven minutes remaining in the first half when an Amanda Webb shot hit the crossbar but it failed to go into the net.
Lovejoy 2, Henry County 1 (boys): Lovejoy (2-2-1) scored both of its goals within a span of 15 seconds.
At the 30:38 mark of the first half, Jason Dixon scored ad 15 seconds later, Joseph Dubois scored to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
Henry County (2-2) got on the board with 5:55 remaining in the contest when Nestor Gutierrez scored on a penalty kick.
"If we play to our potential we'll be all right," Lovejoy head coach Kendra Sewell said. "Things are going well. I think we have the potential to be at state."
