There's starting to be an athletic pipeline from Jonesboro to Brewton-Parker College.
Earlier this year Shenna Brown and LaTreace Johnson started the ball rolling by signing volleyball scholarships to the Mt. Vernon School.
Friday afternoon softball player Rachel Nutter became the third member of the Class of 2005 announce she too would attend the school on an athletic scholarship.
"They are an up and coming softball prograam," Nutter said. "I think I have a chance to step in and play right away," she said.
Nutter is a two-time News-Daily All-Southern Crescent selection at catcher and a team captain.
"I don't look forward to replacing her," said head coach Jeanine Conkle "She is a great team leader, and an excellent catcher."
Nutter helped lead the Lady Cardinals to region titles and trips to the state championship during her time at Jonessboro.
She also caught Jonesboro pitcher Heather Lowry the last three years. Lowry was also named to the All-Southern Crescent softball team.
"We are usually always on the same page," Nutter said. "We are not't just teammates, we are good friends off the field."
As Nutter gets ready to head off to college, Lowry returns for one more season.
"I'm going to have to find somebody to catch Heather now," said Conkle. "It's going to be tough to replace Rachel, I'm not sure you to."
Nutter said playing under Conkle's guidance prepared her to play at the next level.
"She was always pushing us to get better," Nutter said.
Nutter began her athletic career by playing t-ball as a five year old be for moving to softball. Once she started playing at Jonesboro, she helped the Lady Cardinals enjoy some of the school's greatest success since moving into the fast-pitch era.
