The Fort McPherson Main Gate will reopen today to all pedestrians and vehicle traffic only. Officials at the fort said the new gate facility "significantly improves traffic flow and efficiency." It also reduces wait time for residents and employees and brings the fort more in compliance with the Army's physical security standards for control points. The gate will be open 24 hours a day. Pass and decal issue will occur at the Visitor's Center in Building 312. The Lee Street gate will close completely today with the new gate opening, with no entry or exist. This will allow construction to be completed on the canopy and the outbound lanes. The Lee Street gate should be closed for about two months, fort officials estimate. In order to relieve congestion during the peak hours of 6 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m., the fort is urging all its personnel to use the Walker Gate which is easily accessible and doesn't have as much traffic.More like this story
