Sarah M. Simmons, of Riverdale, formerly of Valdosta, died April 30, 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Varner, of Hampton; grandchildren, Lorrie, Donna, Jill, Bobbi, Toni, Belinda, Jimmy, and Diane; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Richard L. Lyons, age 59, of McDonough, passed away April 30, 2005, at the Portsbridge Hospice in Conyers. He was born Oct. 26, 1945, in Atlanta to the late Walter Carl and Leola Harris Lyons. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, was a retired computer programmer and a member of Salem Baptist Church. Mr. Lyons enjoyed family, cooking, and traveling in his motor home. His generous spirit and kind heart will be truly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Lyons; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Curtis Johnson; stepson, Bobby Bursby; seven grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Billy Briggs, of Union City, and Marie and Wayne Hall, of Tucker; aunt, Bonnie Wiggins, of Tucker; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Floyd Lyons; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan McKay will officiate. Interment will follow at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit the family today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Norma Sanders Whaley, age 66, of McDonough, died April 30, 2005. She was born in Randolph, Ala., the daughter of the late J.T. and Dessa Towler Sanders. She was a person who loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and she was an avid Braves fan.
She is survived by her husband, James R. Whaley Sr.; children, Freddie and Jimmy Crowell, Jimmy and Patty Whaley, Stan Whaley, and Kay and Jeff Rowan; grandchildren, Kale Whaley, Stanton Whaley, and Callaway, Julianna and JC Rowan; brothers, Edward and Tommie Sanders, and Johnny and Joyce Sanders; sister, Lois Sanders; and sister-in-law, Janice and Carl Kingren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with pastor William R. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
