Clayton College & State University golfer Matt Beall shot a third round 78 Wednesday after opening rounds of 79 and 80 to finish tied for 27th at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at Bull Creek Golf Course in Columbus.
Beall was selected to compete in the event as an individual with the chance to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships if he could have been the top individual finisher not affiliated with a team advancing to nationals.
Defending NCAA national champion and PBC champ USC Aiken earned the region's automatic bid, finishing at 9-over par for the three rounds with a team score of 887. Armstrong State finished four shots back at 891. Pfeiffer University won and earned the NCAA Atlantic Regional bid, which was also played at Bull Creek Course, at 49-over par.
The strength of Clayton State's Southeast Region showed, as the three at-large bids awarded from two regions will all come from the Southeast Regional. PBC teams AASU, GC&SU and Columbus State all three secured at-large bids for the national tournament, finishing second, third and fourth, respectively.
USCA's Scott Brown edged teammate Dane Burkhart by one shot for low medalist honors, finishing with an even par score for three rounds on the on the par 72, 6,861-yard course.
