The Clayton College & State University women's tennis season came to an end on Friday, as the Lakers fell 5-1 to University of North Florida at the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional in Columbus, GA.
Clayton State's season ends with a 12-10 record. The team's appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championships was the program's fourth in the last five years.
Clayton State's Julia Gandia and Julia Chergova defeated Julie Stoppelli and Liliana Hung at the number one spot to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead, but the Ospreys prevailed at numbers two and three to take a 2-1 lead into doubles. The second-seeded North Florida team of Zhenya Barysheva and Melanie Eng won 8-1 over Daniela Petkova and Lila Tzvetnova, while the third-seeded team of Katja Brandt and Vanessa Sanchez won 8-3 over Elena Bondari and Katrin Gutknecht.
In singles, the Ospreys secured the match with wins at the third seed, the fifth seed and the sixth seed to close out the match.
UNF's Brandt defeated Bondari 6-3 and 6-3 at the No. 3 seed, while Stoppelli won 6-1 and 6-3 over Petkova at the fifth seed. North Florida's Robin Rogers defeated Maria Mancha 6-0 and 6-0 at the sixth seed.
