Atlanta police arrested a Covington man in connection with a suspicious truck left abandoned at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, causing a security alert. Anthony Jefferson, 55, has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle abandonment and possession of fireworks, according to Hartsfield-Jackson officials. The charges stem from a May 1 incident in which a U-Haul rental truck was found parked by the curb of the airport's north terminal, causing that side of the terminal to be shut down for an hour and 45 minutes. That led to flight delays and traffic congestion that lasted for two hours. Jefferson had recently moved to the Atlanta area from New Jersey and rented the U-Haul truck there. He was only supposed to use the truck in New Jersey, thus leading to the charge for possession of a stolen vehicle, Hartsfield-Jackson spokeswoman Felicia Browder said. On the day of the incident Jefferson had used the truck to take to the airport family members who had helped him move. "When he came out and saw the police and K-9 unit around the truck he said he got scared and got on MARTA," Browder said. Jefferson was arrested after coming to the airport Monday for questioning.More like this story
