The city of Jonesboro has been awarded $100,000 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program to build a new playground at Massengale Park on Hanes Street behind City Hall.
"Toddler Town" will provide children between the ages of two and five with age appropriate playground equipment such as slides, swings and tunnels resembling trains, and other items designed to appeal to the children.
A separate section of the park will be dedicated for use by children between the ages of five and 12 and will include a boulder climbing area.
All of the equipment and installation costs will be paid for by the federal CDBG grant and does not require any local match by the City of Jonesboro. Installers with Southern Playgrounds have been hard at work this week to construct the play area.
The city of Jonesboro will host a dedication ceremony and schedule the first Jonesboro "Play Date" for our City's children on Saturday, June 4. Chick-fil-A will co-sponsor the event, providing lemonade. Also, the Chick-fil-A cow will be on hand to interact with guests. There will be special treats for all of the children in attendance including free face painting, balloons and games.
