Bettye Bass, nee Spidle, of Indialantic, Fla., 77, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Fla. after a brief illness.
Known among her friends and family as Grannye, she was their hub and the force that pulled them together. She was the compass guiding her family.
She was a successful business woman in Atlanta in the 70s, 80s and 90s and was influential in her community. She made significant contributions and was ever willing to give of her time and money for causes she believed in.
She lived life to the hilt, relishing every moment, enjoying such activities as stock car driving, flying lessons, driving hydroplane speed boats, and dancing. She drove convertibles in the rain with the top down sheerly for the joy.
Her life will be celebrated and remembered by her two surviving children, Archie Dorrough of Johnnie, Navada and April Evans of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; and her eight grandchildren.
Although there will be no funeral or formal memorial services, the family does plan to host a celebration of her life at a later date. Expressions or sympathy can be made in the form of a contribution to the William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Parkway, Palm Bay, Fla. 32907.
Arrangements entrusted to South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne, Fla (321) 724-2222.
