A former Henry County middle school band teacher will answer charges in state court that he sent obscene photos of himself to a former student using a cellphone.
Marvin Lee King, 47, is out of jail on bond after being arrested for sending the photos using a cellphone camera to a 16 year-old female student that he had previously taught.
Henry County police charge that King sent the photos to the girl in September. Henry County Police spokesman Lt. Jason Bolton said a witness who knew about the pictures informed school officials who informed the girls parents and police.
“It's our understanding that the pictures are of a portion of Mr. King's anatomy,” Bolton said.
King was a veteran music teacher with Henry County schools and taught band at Eagle's Landing Middle School for the past several years until his resignation on Oct. 17, a school spokeswoman said. He had been employed with the system since 1984. His resignation came about the time the complaint was lodged.
The 16-year-old female who allegedly received the pictures is a student now at another Henry school.
Jody Blosser, the mother of one of King's band class students at at Eagle's Landing Middle said she was not informed as to why King resigned suddenly last month.
“It concerns me that he left so quickly,” she said. “My son is in the band and he really, really liked Mr. King.”
Police believe there may be more possible victims and are urging anyone with knowledge of other victims or incidences to call Det. Lori Mailot at (770) 954-2484.
A message left at King's home was not immediately returned Wednesday.
