High school students arrested in burglary

By Ed Brock

Police arrested seven Mt. Zion High School students in connection with burglary that was going on while the teens should have been in school.

David Wayne Nave, 17, of Jonesboro and six juveniles whose names were not available were charged with burglary, criminal damage to property and obstruction of an officer. Around 11:40 a.m. Monday Clayton County officers responded to a call about a burglary in process at 7566 Colonial Court. One officer saw two suspects crawling out of a back window at the house and ordered them to the ground, but both boys started running away.

The officers managed to catch one and arrest him on the scene after a struggle during which the officers used pepper spray on the 16-year-old boy. At least four more suspects ran from the house during the struggle.

Other officers arrested the remaining suspects and two of them cooperated with police by telling them that all of the other teens under arrest had been inside the house. At the time the police report was made the owner of the house had not been able to determine if anything had been taken because the burglars had wrecked the inside of the house.

One of the juvenile suspects was 15 and the others were 16 years old.
